Teen Gothic

I’m a baby bat looking to connect with my local goth scene but it seems there isn’t really any out here? The closest city to me is Charlotte and even that’s quite far away. I’m unsure of how I’d go about connecting with folks irl. Anyone else out here?

Mainly, I really want to meet like-minded people. I've been listening to the music forever but I've never met anyone else who likes it irl. I'm really bad at making friends so I've been looking into local events, but I have sensory and social issues that make clubs and concerts pretty unenjoyable.

I want friends that like the same things as me, but idk where to go or what to do or if I'll be a buzzkill for not wanting to go to loud events. Any words of wisdom?

I’ve been wanting to get into the goth scene for a while but due to controlling parents I wasn’t able to until I recently moved out. That being said how would y’all recommend someone from a smaller town find the local goth community?

So there is this article I saw a while back with an interview from Interpol where they said they were a band who grew disillusioned with the New York goth scene kind of insinuating they were involved in it in their early days. I know Interpol are not goth but their brand of dark post punk is the reason I like goth music today and of the 2000's bands, they are among the closest to goth in sound and style. Carlos Dengler was also kind of a goth but from what I can tell his music tastes leaned more into metal oftentimes. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what you think about what crosses the line in the goth scene, and who should speak out what is wrong.

I was in a 30+ goth group and a women with 48 years young posted an underwear photo (she had tattoos one was HIM non said goth, and had large fake boobs clearly seeking complements. it was her in a very tiny bikini style top and panties and men just told her how hot she was. I said that I felt that we as the goth 30+ age comunity shouldn't be posting these on a goth page as she is promoting goth as a fetish and she shouldn't be posting lingerie shots in her post. She then yells at me how I "hate seeing s confident women" and that I have corset pictures. I hold her that it wasn't the same and that I am wearing a skirt and if she thinks corset and skirt photos are the same as skimpy bra and panties she doesn't understand the goth scene fashion wise. I look at her profile she is a stipper and has an OF and this is all she posts about. then I get ganged up on by her stipper OF friend and they essentially loon at my photos to trash me. (I told the girl she looked good but this wasn't the place and it makes the scene look like this is what goth women are about) she tried to shame my photos and say I am "too ugly now" to take my own and that is why I am "shaming" her and how she got 10 new subscribers because I gave her post more attention. I just wanted to call her out as politely as I could so admins would remove her photo from the 30 40 50+ goths group. instead they allowed these women to harrass and call me names and bully me and no one said anything. It felt like you had a women half naked posting her body in a goth page perpetrating a fetish stereotype that goth women are trying not to be a part if and I am made the asshole for calling her out and saying this shouldn't be posted. IDK what to think anymore. I don't care if someone does OF, but to post the closest you can get to naked without being removed to get your image in a goth group to find clients or act more legitimately goth I have an issue with… but I felt like I was the only one and it was all just men complementing her body. only 1 person said "what does this have to do with goth?" and they were attacked in the comments too. I just hope I have people who understand so I don't feel like I am going crazy for speaking out against the fetishism of the goth scene and people exploiting it.

I’ve been into the scene for quite some time but the closest thing I got to a goth scene is two hours away, and I unfortunately can’t do the travel to join in events. It’s time related with work. I mostly work mornings so I have to sleep at night but sometimes I work closing and I don’t feel like doing much after my shift, especially driving a four hour round trip in a night.

Underground events don’t really happen where I live and the closest thing I have to a goth night is a emo night. The only goth friends I have are all online in different states and countries. I guess I’m just having a lot of FOMO and jealousy from people who live near ‘big’ goth scenes.

For goths that are 40 or above, have you ever been dissed by someone, whether they were a goth or a non-goth, about you still being in the scene at your age?

I ask this as a 20 something babybat with bad skin, who is already self-conscious about whether or not I'm pulling it off or not.

Do you ever get self-conscious about it?

Baby bat in need of help. So I’m going to visit my parents in Virginia. They live in the Alexandria/DC area. Anyone know any fun or cool spots in the that area? I’m talking like sightseeing, cool shops, events in the next few months, clubs, general stuff like that.

I was wondering if anyone knew of goth clubs (or clubs that play goth music) in Korea, Seoul in particular. And if anyone went to any of those places, I would really appreciate if you could tell me your experience. Thank you!
